BARWAAQO FATTENING

Livestock production is the bedrock of Somaliland’s economy accounting for 60-65% of the Gross Domestic Product. Sheep and goats, accounts for 91% of all the animals traded, however, goat meat remains to be the most popular and preferred of all. goats delivered to Buroa market are often characterized as underweight and of low fat. Most often, goats raised using this method take longer to attain the required market size and, in most cases, sold when they are underweight. Poor management practices in goat rearing have further exacerbated reduced supply of healthy and quality goat in most of the markets. Such practices include inadequate feeding, watering and routine health services. Therefore, this startup aims to buy young male goats and adult female and subsequently fatten them for some period of time before disposing them off to potential customers around Buroa District in Somaliland. The zero grazing approach will be adopted during to raise the animals. The method ensures limited movement of the animals by providing most of their needs alongside administration of other management practices in a confined area. The purpose is to provide an ideal condition for optimum growth and development of the goats within a shorter time. This will reduce the time taken for the goats to reach the appropriate market size while at the same time ensuring that the animals fetch better prices compared to those raised using the conventional pastoral methods. Adequate feeding, watering, castration and other routine practices will be followed to the latter Thus, in order to implement this new startup, we are raising $1000 through Tarmiye Crowdfunding platform. So that, dear friends and families a small amount of money you contribute to us $1 will support us to get other $2000 of Grant investment which will make us possible to improve this important business and also to create job opportunities for our youth.
